Grassroots sport

Eton Environmental Group has continued its support of grassroots sport by sponsoring young cricketers in North Yorkshire.

Our latest donation means the various youth teams of Richmondshire Cricket Club are all now wearing the same distinctive blue kit featuring the logo of a select number of sponsors, including Eton.

The club has junior teams ranging from u9 to u15 competing in leagues across North Yorkshire, Teesside and County Durham and overseen by qualified England and Wales Cricket Board coaches.

The current season has just come to an end and it was the most successful in the junior section’s history, with nearly all the teams either winning their respective league or cup competitions.

Joanna Shaefer, Director of Eton Environmental Group, said: “After a year of lockdown it’s great to see children being able to get out and about playing sport again. Grassroots clubs like Richmondshire play a crucial role in providing that opportunity and we are delighted to support them during the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

“Through our Corporate Social Responsibility programme, we seek to help as many local organisations/charities we can, and it’s always nice to be able to do this locally given our head office presence in Darlington.

“Whether it’s cricket, football, of any other kind of activity, youth sports is something which is particularly important to us as and we are delighted the youngsters at Richmondshire did so well this season.”

Mike White, Chairman of Richmondshire Cricket Club Juniors, said: “Exciting leagues like the IPL and The Hundred have created a buzz and the modern, colourful strips and sponsor logos are all part of that.

“This generous sponsorship by Eton allows Richmondshire youngsters to get a taste of that, to walk out with their friends all wearing the same smart kit just like their cricketing heroes.”
