CASE STUDIES

ENGIE

On behalf of ENGIE, Eton Environmental Group carried out fire risk assessments to 30 of the company’s properties across northern England. This includes fire door & building compartmentation inspections at Listed buildings.

The Client:

ENGIE is a leading energy and services company focused on three key activities: production and supply of low carbon energy, services, and regeneration. Its’ purpose is to make zero carbon happen for businesses and communities throughout the UK & Ireland – accelerating the transition towards a net zero carbon world. Globally, the ENGIE Group employs 170,000 people worldwide and achieved revenues of €60.1 billion in 2019.

The Work:

Eton completed fire risk assessments to 30 ENGIE sites throughout 2017 and 2018, including children’s centres, churches, cemetery buildings and care home properties across the North of England.

During the surveys, we did the following:

  • Examined existing fire safety records and policies
  • Reviewed staff fire safety training history
  • Tests on fire alarms and emergency lighting
  • Visual inspections of the buildings, identifying possible fire hazards, reviewing fire escape routes and looking closely at potential sources of ignition, such as fuel sources

We were also asked to complete fire door and building compartmentation inspections at the Grade 1 Listed Wakefield Town Hall and several other listed buildings in the town. These surveys involved looking at existing fire doors to see if they were working properly and to identify if they were located in the correct place. The compartmentation inspections involved looking at how buildings are sub-divided to restrict the spread of fire.

Although the agreed turnaround for this contract was for reports to be returned within 10 working days from completion on site, they are consistently delivered well in advance of this turnaround. Our FCS Live System allows us to issue draft reports on the same day. Following technical review, full fire risk assessment reports can now be returned within 48 hours.

The Client’s View:

Graham Pawson, from ENGIE, said: “We wanted a company with a proven track record of being able to carry out comprehensive, quality risk assessments to time and Eton Environmental Group fit this bill.

“They are responsive, very proactive and always willing to go that extra mile; I can’t recommend them highly enough.”
